Drottningholms Baroque Ensemble

Vivaldi ’The Four Seasons’ – Opening concert on Thursday April 13th

Drottningholms Baroque Ensemble was formed by violist Lars Brolin in 1971. The six original musicians set themselves the goal of playing 17th- and 18th-century music on time-honored instruments. Today, the number of members has grown and you can at most present an orchestra with both strings, brass, percussion and drums. Concertmaster for the ensemble is the violinist Nils-Erik Sparf, who is also primary in the Uppsala Chamber Soloists, and Stefan Lindvall who is a freelance musician based in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

Over the years, DBE has had the opportunity to work and tour in several countries and continents including the USA, China, Australia, Spain, Germany, France and Japan. Many famous artists and conductors have chosen to collaborate with Drottningholmarna. In Sweden, concerts have been arranged together with Eric Ericson’s Chamber Choir and Bach Choir. Among the world names can be mentioned the conductors Christopher Hogwood, Andrew Parrott, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Sigiswald Kuijken, Emmanuelle Haim and Alfredo Bernardini as well as soloists such as Anne Sofie von Otter, Clas Pehrsson, Malena Ernman and Emma Kirkby. Since 2006, the ensemble has collaborated with soprano Barbara Hendricks. This collaboration has hit France in three disc recordings and several tours in, Morocco and Japan.

About 60 disc recordings have been made, among others for BIS, EMI, Musica Svecia and Naxos with works by Bach, Handel, Telemann and Roman to name a few. The recording of Vivaldi’s ”Seasons” received international attention and was chosen as the best recording of the work in the prestigious German magazine Audio.

Since 2005, Drottningholm’s Baroque Ensemble has run its own concert series with about six concerts per year. Over the years, various constellations of DBE as well as a large number of guest groups and soloists have participated. In 2011, the ensemble celebrated its 40th anniversary with three celebratory concerts, where both the baroque oboist Alfredo Bernardini and the composer Carl Unander-Scharin were on the program.

Drottningholms Baroque Ensemble will be performing during our conference with a concert of Vivaldi ’The Four Seasons’ on opening night, Thursday 13th of April.

Tickets to this evening concert will also be sold separatly for those who cannot attend the conference in whole.
